5 Questions You Should Ask In Your Next Interview

When preparing for your next job interview, you are likely to spend most of your time researching your potential employer and practicing your answers to the questions you anticipate. However, you must not forget to ask your own questions. Most hiring managers will ask if you have any questions at the end of your interview, but if the interview heads in a conversational direction, feel free to ask relevant questions as they arise. Below are the 5 questions you should ask during your next interview.

Question #1 What Do You Enjoy About Working Here?

This question not only shows that you are engaged, but also allows you to hear first-hand what a current employee likes about the company where you are interviewing.

Question #2 How Do You See This Position Changing And Evolving Over The Next Year?

Depending on the position you are applying for, you may want to tweak this question a bit. You may want to focus on a shorter or longer period of time, or you may want to reword it to focus on whether there is growth opportunity within the company.

Question #3 Do You Have Any Concerns About My Qualifications?

This question is quite up front, so make sure that it is delivered with body language and tone that is non-defensive. It is an excellent question to directly address any specific concerns, and the question may lead to more detailed questions about your qualifications. Try to respond to any concerns by providing measurable examples that would dispel any concerns. If you do not have a specific example, maybe because you do not yet have the experience, share that you are eager to grow and are up for the challenge.

Question #4 A Company-Specific Question

Before your interview, you were sure to do some research about the senior company where you are interviewing. To show your potential employer that you have done your homework, ask a company-specific question. This could be concerning any recent (positive) press, recent executive management changes, or company history.

Question #5 What Is The Next Step In The Interview Process?

Keep your ears open, because many of the questions above will inspire follow-up questions. In most cases, you do not want your questions to take up too much time during your interview, but asking the right question will help your potential employer gain more insight and understanding. If you don’t already have it, don’t forget to ask for direct contact information.

By asking the questions above, you will provide the hiring manager with a better idea of who you are, and you will also walk away with a better sense of whether this is the right position for you.
